“A Bad Case Of Stripes” by David Shannon is a fun and whimsical story about individuality and accepting yourself. Of course it is beautifully illustrated in David Shannon’s signature style (although much more refined than in his “David” books) which adds to the appeal, but the most enchanting thing about this book for me is the message: be true to yourself. While the subtleties of the story line may be above your child’s head until the age of four or five, the colorful and dynamic illustration designs can keep the attention of children as young as two or three. This is a classic book that will grow with your child, I glowingly recommend it.

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009Tripi’s Tip of the Day: Green Guidance.
Monday, June 15th, 2009Mothers across this wide world have added fuel to the great fight for clean safe baby products. Over the past couple of decades the standards for everything from baby food to crib bedding has risen exponentially. Now when you peruse the shelves of your local supermarket there are “green” cleaning supplies, “organic” sheets and “natural” ingredients in nearly every child-related product. However, since there is little to no regulation of these terms, how is a parent who wants their baby to have the benefit of the most healthy, clean and green surroundings supposed to navigate this sea of labels and branding? By following my Tripi’s Tip of the Day!
To find the best products for our planet and for your baby’s development on our planet: Go To The Good Guide!
This site, www.goodguide.com has the most in-depth comprehensive rating system available right now. Everything from baby bottles (which I have more information on here) to prepared foods, toys, clothes, soap and lotion is investigated and rated according to it’s overall impact on our environment and our babies.
I used to get so frustrated as I would carefully peruse item after item in the baby isle. After a while all of the labels and ingredients looked the same. This site takes the hard work out of the process, all you have to do is enter a product that you are curious about into the search engine, and it’s rating will immediately come up. If you are curious about what kind of information went into the rating, that is available to you as well.
I use this site for just about everything these days, from which bug spray is best for a toddler on a camping trip, to what kind of dish soap I should buy for the dishwasher. It gives me peace of mind, without having to do all of the mind-numbing research myself.
Now I am going to fold my son’s freshly laundered, chemical-free, envoronmentally concious training underwear. Wanting the best for our babies is the most natural thing in the world. I looked it up on www.goodguide.com, it got a perfect 10!
