What am I going to do now?!

Monday, August 31st, 2009

So for some of you, your kidlets have gone back to school - are you happy or sad?! Tricky q I know!

Our B2S day is next Tuesday.. and in this family it means all but me (yes, my hubby too!) will be heading out that door on their way to school!!

My babes will be entering JK and Grade 3 and my older babe will be entering his first year of Recreation at one of the colleges in Toronto! My Hub is changing careers after getting his honors advanced diploma over ten years ago..

Tuesday will be a big day in our house and thinking of it and getting prepped for it has left me wondering - when they’re all “gone” what will I do??

I have some pretty neat things in mind - not many of them fun.. you know things like - have the house clean for more than 5 minutes.. read a book and enjoy a cup of coffee… this really is my first time saying “have a great day” to all three of them at the same time..

I’m kinda nervous :D

What are your B2S habits - what do you do when kidlets leave for the day?!

Hope you’re enjoying your day!

Scheduling is a Bit@h!

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

School ended two weeks ago and my “life calendar” is completely jammed until the end of October! WTF?!

Does this sound like you?! How do we do it? I mean, this is my “life” calendar. My “Professional” calendar is booked until around mid August, but I am looking to go to school for some professional courses - a.k.a My Diploma - and if that’s a go, I’ll be a woman with two kids, 1 Hub and no breathing room.

Do you schedule in your time with your kids? We have a walk around the bloack and some time at the park after dinner.. (Is that enough?! Guilt!)

Do you schedule time with your man? We have a quick meeting at the sink while we’re brushing our teeth - good lord! Does that even count?!

Between School, school council, summer school, fledgling business, weekends here, there and everywhere and now even the possibility of college in there (did I mention this option is probably going to happen for both myself and my hub?!), the calendar on the wall looks like someone was spewing ink everywhere!

What do you do to make time for you? Your spouse? Your kids.. Is there such a thing as quality time anymore when the next “appointment” starts immediately after the “quality” time?

Share your thoughts and tactics please cause I would LOVE  to know how to give my calendar (and me) some breathing room!!

Cheers!

I simply can’t wait!!

The end of a long project has come upon us and I am so excited!!

We bought our first house about a year ago and had full plans to finish the basement - rec room and a shared office between my hubby and I.. we gutted the place and got started and then as per your cliche home dec show - things stalled dead. We’ve picked up here and there and made strides in an on and off fashion..

I am so excited to say that we are putting on the final coat of paint and cutting the trim and we’re done!! We should be completely finished by the end of this week! Whoo Hoo!

It’s an awful feeling having your house in limbo - I have had to rearrange my office and working habits and it’s definitely taking a toll on my productivity.. files are in piles, client’s info is strewn all around my office and I’m starting to get that feeling that something’s gonna fall through the cracks soon :( NOT GOOD!

So this afternoon, I am going to finish the paint and start moving my “office” back to my office and hopefully by the end of next week - my professional Work From Home Career will be back in full swing!!

I promise I will put up pics! :D

Hope you’re having a great day!

Hey! How YOO Doin’?

Whew! What a week! You ever have one of those weeks where life just continues and you can’t keep up?

That’s been my week! it started off pretty horribly on Sunday - I actually was a total idiot and fell down the stairs and pretty much destroyed my knee so sleep has not been a friend (ever tried sleeping stick straight?!), but Tylenol and I are best buds!

The jobs kept coming in - even ones that have given me nightmares before have somehow resurfaced :S

I was able to put off a tiny bit of work until next week - albeit begrudgingly - I HATE doing that..

One of the niggling things on my task list was doing a post here.. I honestly have been trying to do a post on this website since monday afternoon!

The only major things that I was able to accomplish were actually quite large in nature - I finished the preliminary launch of The Work from Home Expo including rounding up my target media list and I finalised the branding of it - You gotta check it out - I am so very excited!!!

I also finished (just about 10 minutes ago) the wainscotting in the basement - it’s heating up in here so I really want to finish the kids play room and my office!!

Iguess I should be satisfied with my week - maybe it’s my knee throwing me off… I just don’t feel like I’ve accomplished much this week..

How about you? How was your week? Any triumphs? Tribulations? Let me know, I’d love to hear that I’m not alone!

Wishing you a great Friday!

Productivity is Found.. In a Tube Of Mascara!?

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Ok, put your hands up if you go through the day without a distraction…

Yeah.. I didn’t think so ;)

There is not a day that goes by without distraction - I mean let’s count ‘em..

  1. Candace is nailing Phineas & Ferb yet again for some crazy stunt they pulled..
  2. The boy is wrestling the cat (or at least trying to)
  3. The boy is taking apart his truck
  4. The boy wants to sit on my lap
  5. FaceBook bellows out to me
  6. Twitter whispers that it misses me
  7. Snack time
  8. A friend sends a fwd
  9. Snack time (AGAIN?!)
  10. Diego should be coming on
  11. Client A calls and chit chats for 85 hours

Have I mentioned it’s only 9am at this point?! Haha!! So you see my dilemma.. probably the same as yours.. how on earth are you supposed to get anything done right?!

Let me guess, you’ve tried it all.. segmenting the “office” as far away from the kids as visually possible (you still need to keep an eye on them right?), writing the list the night before, the week before - heck I bet you even have a running task list that dings at you when you “miss” something!

BUT - Have you tried mascara?! yeah, that’s right.. that lonely little tube sitting in your bathroom.. try it.

Tomorrow, when you wake up, put on a cute butt hugging pair of jeans (you know those ones that make you look hot!), throw on a decent tee (you do still need to be functional) and then plump up those lashes.. while you’re at it, throw on a bit of blush and a dab of lipgloss (if you’re feeling really into it)…

I have been shocked at what happens when I actually take a minute to give myself some “woman” time in the morning.. I actually work better.. more focused, more determined and have less distractions.. well, it’s not like they disappear altogether, but they don’t cause a brain freeze as easily.

Think back to when you had a “real-job” (you know I say that sarcastically right?) did you ever go to the office in sweats? What about those fuzzball slippers you’ve got? That getup is ok if you’re not felling great and still have to work, but they make you FEEL lax.. they make you wanna go back to bed - not be productive..

I’m certainly not saying lay on the full date night face, but you will absolutely feel different (physically and mentally) if you put a small bit of effort into yourself in the morn.. and hey.. a miracle bigger than productivity may occur..

Your hubby may compliment you ;)

Have a great day!

ps. If you have any of your own funky productivity tips.. please share them.. we can all use more productivity!
