A few weeks ago, Daddy cut some windows and a doorway in an empty pampers box, and presented it to Lil as a new little house. Stroke of genius! We figured it was good for a bit of fun that day, but the luster has not worn off by any means. She still plays with it often, and sometimes for extended periods of time. The primary residents thus far appear to be two separate families using the home as a bit of a timeshare. Its either the baby dolls and her plastic doggy, or Mickey and Minnie and Goofy. She has also been using it as a base when playing with her blocks; transforming the single family home into elaborate condo complexes.
The other day when Lil was in a foul mood (teething, again?!) I tried lots of distractions to cheer her up. She wasn’t having any of it until I suggested she paint her house, and her face just lit right up. It really saved the afternoon. So I’m pretty happy with how much we’ve all managed to get out of a plain old empty box. Here she is, just getting started:

As you can see, the empty plastic container that previously contained the array of hummus we served at a recent BBQ was really worth saving. It is an absolutely ideal painting palette, complete with a lid to salvage the unused paint when she’s finished. I love to find fun useful ways to reuse these kinds of items.
When she was finished, she ran around the yard saying “blue-y hands! blue-y hands!” A friend of ours joked: looks like she took care of that pesky smurf problem.

ROTFL!!! “Pesky Smurf problem”! HA! That was so funny I about pee’d my pants! Oh, maybe I did a little actually. Thanks for the laugh! And great craft tip btw! I’m going to do it with my son later today!
im’ so glad!
the only downside so far is that i bought another of these big boxes of wipes at target and she had a tantrum in the checkout line, trying to grab the box off the conveyor belt and yelling, house! house! house!
i found myself feeling the need to explain to those in line behind us…’um she has one of these boxes as a play house at home….’
LOL…
Hi, cool post. I have been wondering about this topic,so thanks for writing.
