You've nailed it. You can read all the books, get advice from Drs, friends and family, but nothing will every prepare you for your own own motherhood journey. And it will be a whole different experience with each additional child you add to your family (which I discovered to my dismay with both #2 and #3).

I remember when my kids decided they had had enough of nursing. It's hard to deal with. I felt like I wasn't trying hard enough. But ultimately you have to follow your daughter's cues. And things like teething and learning to walk and changing a nap routine and being sick can all play havoc on nursing too. Try to have patience with yourself and M. From what I've read, you're doing a great job. Try not to stress and enjoy the new discoveries.

That was sort of how Lily reacted to my Father in law last week the first time he dared to pick her up. By the end of their four day trip it was a different more beautiful story I'm pleased to say.

I'm glad you are feeling a little better and congrats on winning the battle. I believe I read somewhere that all wars are won one battle at a time.

When we lived in SF the mall close to us had a nursing room that was spacious . There was toys, a bunch of change tables ( pretty far from the private nursing area ( so no poop and food together) and little booths with big comfy chairs. I appreciated this because my son was a distracted nurser at that age (3-9 months) and I was no good at NIP yet, I had to whip my whole huge boob out and it made me nervous back then. Fast forward to about 3 months later and we were pros, but I apprecated the privacy at that stage of our nursing relationship.

A mall in Calgary had the nicest nursing mothers room. It had dimmed down lighting, big comfy chairs, toys for older kids (NO TV) and lots of space. Wish they had that at the malls here mind you Upper Canada Mall in new market is trying not quite there yet but getting there.

They have what they call a "mother's room" at Nordstrom that I've used a couple of times. I've become much more relaxed about nursing in public with my second child, mainly out of necessity. The other day a very nice salesgirl at Baby Gap let me use one of the dressing rooms, even though there was a line. I still find it a little awkward in restaurants, though.
