Remember that Hot Wheels World Record Attempt event I talked about? Well when my son heard about it we had to stop in. The event took place the the Evergreen Brick Works in the east end of the city (well, east for me). The parking lot was full and my 6-year old son could hardly contain himself when he saw the entrance.

For a full parking lot the venue didn’t seem too crowded. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of people there but there was still plenty of room to walk around. The first place my kids went for was the Hot Wheels toy area. All 3 kids enjoyed playing with some of Hot Wheels newest toys, like the Hot Wheels Rev Ups. These cars move with kid power and the tracks that had them driving upside down were pretty cool. One of my favourite new toys (and my kids thought it was kinda cool too) is the new Hot Wheels Wall Tracks. Using 3M’s adhesive technology, kids can now host Hot Wheel races on their walls. This is great news for me. Now my son can run tracks on open walls in his room instead of down the hallways, making an obsticle course for everyone else in the house.

The kids also had a chance to try out some Hot Wheels racing games in both simulations as well as on the computer. The kids also received a large Hot Wheels Cars of 2011 poster which outlines the newest cars to add to your collection. If you didn’t get out to the event, you can download the poster on your computer (pdf).

Of course there was food. The BBQ was going, grilling up hot dogs, hamburgers and pulled pork sandwiches. The folks at PopChips were there handing out samples (BBQ is my favourite) and all the kids loved the Hot Wheels themed drink boxes.

But what everyone was waiting for was the big drop. You can see the video on Hot Wheels site (make sure you aren’t squeamish). Even though it’s a video, still seeing the car race down from such high heights had me weak in the knees (I’m not a height person). On May 29 as part of “IZOD Presents Hot Wheels Fearless at the 500™,” Team Hot Wheels Yellow Driver Tanner Foust successfully landed a ramp-to-ramp distance jump of 332 feet. Foust, a three-time X Games gold medalist and professional stunt driver soared an impressive 332 feet over the current world record at the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500.
All in all, the Hot Wheels was really well organized. There was something for everyone, kids and adults alike (though I did find the sound rather loud) and the venue was great. The kids walked away with a sample of the new Hot Wheels Wall Tracks and the VideoRacer (a Hot Wheels car with a built-in video camera). I’m, I mean the kids, are looking forward to trying both of these out (both of which will be available in stores June 2011).
