Motivational underwear

How about these?

How about these?

I’ve been pretty neglectful of my youngest daughter’s potty training. Part of it has been I’ve just been busy. Another part is based on history. I’ve done the potty training thing with my two oldest and I must admit it’s one stage I don’t enjoy going through.

I know my oldest was trained at 18 months, but then regressed when she was two (and her younger brother was born). It wasn’t until she was three that she was fully trained. My son was potty trained days before he was scheduled to start his 3 to 5 preschool summer camp. I was starting to panic because he needed to be potty trained to go to camp. So historically three has been the magic number.

My youngest turns three in December, which is getting closer by the day. And I know there have been a few people talking about potty training, specifically Rebecca at A Bit of Momsense. And there’s even a forum on Everything Mom dealing with the issue. So I decided to step things up a little bit.

My daughter’s been wearing pull-ups but I think she’s getting comfortable in them. When she has them on she never tells me she has to go to the bathroom. However, on the few occasions she’s worn nothing, she has told me and she’s even gone on the potty successfully. So today my daughter and I went out to buy special underwear. My plan is to let her wear just the underwear when we’re at home, but put a pull-up on when we have to walk to school or when it’s bed time.

So we’ve been home for two hours since we bought the underwear and we’re now onto pair number three, having had accidents in the first two. It’s a little frustrating but I’m trying to remember it takes time and some reconditioning. Hopefully both my daughter and I can get through this phase without too much stress and no tears (mine that is).
