The latest from our Heart and Soul
As a mom who cloth diapers, I’m obviously concerned about my consumer decisions with regards to the impact my family makes on the environment. However, there are times when we need to make purchasing decisions based on convenience that may take us outside our typical comfort zone. While I’m not a fanatical tree hugger by any stretch of the imagination, it is good to know there are companies out there striving to provide products for parents that minimize environmental impact.
When I was asked to review the Bio-Spectra ATTITUDE® Eco-Friendly Diapers, I agreed because I believed that providing an opinion on a product that could easily be seen as a worthy opponent to cloth diapering from an environmental impact point of view would be interesting.
I used the diapers on my son for a week and was pleasantly surprised at how well they worked. The diapers were soft to the touch and had adjustable Velcro-like fasteners that kept the diaper in place and secure. While using the diapers my son did not experience any diaper rash which speaks volumes as most other disposable diapers give him a rash within a day of wearing them. I might note that not once in the nearly 7 months that he has been cloth diapered has he suffered from a rash so to find a comparable product that I know will be kind to his little behind is noteworthy. I found the absorbency to be outstanding because he tends to be a heavy wetter. In fact, I used them overnight for the duration of the full week and for a baby who tends to sleep 10-12 hours straight, not once did his diaper leak.
ATTITUDE® products are manufactured with a commitment to minimize not only environmental impact through the use of renewable and plant-based resources but the company also strives to provide products that contain ingredients that are bio-degradable and non-toxic. The diapers use 100% biodegradable & compostable PLA in the back and top sheets and contain 100% FSC certified wood pulp in the fluff. I also love that the packaging for the diapers is completely biodegradable.
In conclusion, the diaper worked extremely well for my family from both an environmental as well as health conscious perspective. I would have no reservations in recommending the diapers to those who cloth diaper who may find themselves in a situation where a disposable is a better option for logistical reasons. I would also highly recommend them as an alternative to those who may not find themselves in a financial position to invest in a cloth diaper stash but who would like to use a disposable diaper that will not negatively impact the environment. When one considers the number of diapers entering the landfills on a daily basis, every little bit we do to lessen the burden on our fragile environment is a step in the right direction.
