28 Weeks Pregnant: Leg Pain During Pregnancy

28 Weeks Pregnant: Leg Pain During PregnancyYou are 28 weeks pregnant! Your baby weighs 1,000 grams! That’s impressive! You can try to find something that weighs 1,000 grams for comparison or you can imagine that is equivalent to about 2 pounds, 2 ounces. Over the last month her weight has doubled! She’s almost 15 inches long now – not exactly what you’re hoping for at birth but a respectable size nonetheless. Congratulations, baby. She also now has eyelashes to bat and her eyes are not only opening and closing but moving left to right. More fattening. More lengthening. More growing in general.

You may be looking a little less perky belly and a little more janitor belly as baby’s weight increases. Your belly will start shifting downward as weight and gravity do their things. Perhaps you are looking at your swollen stomach and wondering where that other 5-6 pounds of kid is going to fit. Will you just start bulging out the back? Not likely. You will, however, probably become slightly less comfortable with each passing week as the weight of baby strains the round ligaments of your pelvis and the muscles of your back. Another common complaint is leg pain during pregnancy. As if you’re not having a difficult enough time falling asleep (what with the peeing and the stupid body pillow and your constant worries that you’re going to give birth to some sort of mutant two-headed child), now you’ve got leg pain to deal with. Applying heat and rubbing your legs can help relieve the discomfort. Often, a simple stretch of the calf muscles will help: simply flex your foot by pulling your toes upward. Even standing on the sore leg or walking a bit can help.
