25 Weeks Pregnant: Pregnancy Glucose Test

25 Weeks Pregnant: Pregnancy Glucose TestYou are 25 weeks pregnant! Like that scene in “Aliens,” your baby can clearly be seen, seemingly trying to emerge through your abdomen with superhuman force. Try this: lie on your back in the tub and watch the waves. Crazy little monkey. She’s not coming out anytime soon. For now, you’re still in charge. Baby is around 13 ½ inches long and weighs one and a half pounds. Grab a pound of butter and another half pound of butter... oh, wait. We already did that trick.

Sometime between 24 and 28 weeks your health care provider will send you for a routine pregnancy glucose tolerance test to detect gestational diabetes. Women with normal pre-pregnancy blood sugar levels can develop gestational diabetes and will often have no symptoms. Diabetes can cause complications so this testing is important.

Just a few weeks left to go on your second trimester and you might want to use this last bit of energy to prep for the boss’ arrival. Ordering a crib, painting the nursery, or just moving all the gin and vodka to a lockable cabinet. These are all good ideas. Don’t go overboard on the baby clothes. Chances are you’ll get tons of clothes from excited friends and relatives when your baby shower comes around. Babies often grow out of newborn sizes very quickly and some babies never fit into them at all. Stay away from the Baby Gap. They can see you coming a mile away. Those tiny little mannequins? Weapons of mind control. Anyway, if it’s your first baby and you’re registering, select a wide variety of items so guests with varying budgets can all find something perfect for you. Or ask for cash. You’ll soon find there can never be too much cash.
