You are 24 weeks pregnant! Let’s talk about pregnancy pain, shall we? Do you feel like you are being stretched from the inside out? Well, technically, you are... Your expanding uterus and that child that won’t stop growing are pushing against your lower ribs. As she gets bigger, your uterus expands and sits higher (and wider) in your abdomen, causing your ribcage to shift up and out slightly. Certain positions can be more or less comfortable. Try propping yourself up a bit in bed and sitting up straight to allow freer breathing and help prevent heartburn. The burn that has no heart, really. You’re probably gaining about a pound every week at this point, which is at least helping to pad your rear end while you struggle to find a comfortable position in which to watch “American Idol.” Seriously, that’s all you’re asking. Just a comfortable position to watch “American Idol.” And a family size tub of cherry yoghurt sprinkled with chocolate chips. That’s all. Just get a few moments without the pregnancy pain.
If you were (and let’s not think on this for too long, shall we?) to go into labour at this point, your baby’s lungs would likely be developed enough to help her survive outside the womb. She’d much rather stay in the womb, though. She’s taking nutrients directly from your amniotic fluid, swimming, peeing (yes, in you – must point this out once again) and loving her tiny, little world. She’s just over a foot long and weighs a bit more than a pound. She’s skinny. If you had her proportions, you’d weigh about 5 or 6 pounds. Too skinny even for the world of international fashion. Soon she’ll fill out a bit but weight gain at this time is not as exponential as it was in early weeks. Rest assured, a chubby little bundle of love is on her way.
