20 Weeks Pregnant: Pregnancy Massage

20 Weeks Pregnant: Pregnancy MassageAt 20 weeks pregnant, you’re halfway there! The halfway mark is frightening and exhilarating at the same time – you may be starting to become nervous about your impending labour (not to mention all the labour that comes after you actually give birth, as in, eighteen years of labour...) and you may be excited to be on the downward slope of the pregnancy mountain. Helping to buoy your spirits is that second trimester gusto. You’re probably feeling healthier and more energetic than ever, even as you get heavier. Your abdomen is noticeably enlarged, a combination of uterus and a few extra bowls of ice cream, no doubt, and you’re likely living exclusively in maternity clothing and your husband’s university tees.

Enlarging that abdomen of yours is a baby who is now about 6 ½ inches long and weighs about 10 ounces. She weighs as much as a can of soda (which you are not drinking, right? Right?). Your little can of soda is developing a layer of waxy, white substance over her skin to protect her from your amniotic fluid. This white coating, called vernix caseosa, mostly wears off by birth but usually can be found in small amounts after birth in little fatty folds behind ears, in the backs of knees and under baby’s many chins. But – no mind – you’ll doubtless receive washcloths and baby shampoos by the thousands when your baby shower rolls around.

Celebrate your 5-month mark with a pregnancy massage, a fancy dinner or a romantic night with your partner (or all three!) and relish these comfy, cozy second trimester days. If you haven’t already been taking photos of your emerging bump, now is a great time to take a midway photo in profile. Maybe even wear a bikini! You’ll never be so proud to have such a big waist!
