You are 14 weeks pregnant! Inside that bump you’re starting to notice is a little person about the size of a peach – around 3 ½ inches – who weighs close to 2 ounces. Just as a reference, you now probably weigh about 250-300 ounces (or more, or less – but a lot more than your kid). You’re probably also significantly taller than 3 ½ inches. Moving on... Now that baby’s face has completely developed, she can wrinkle her little brow (perhaps expressing disgust at your choice of snack – potato chips dipped in hamburger relish AGAIN?) and she may be moving her lips to develop muscles needed for the sucking reflex after birth. She might even be sucking her thumb! What a cute week! This is possibly one of the cutest weeks ever! Isn’t life great?
Life really IS great! Aren’t you feeling better about everything? You’re probably hitting that mid-pregnancy “bloom” (not to be confused with the early pregnancy “doom” you’re just escaping barely intact). You don’t feel so often inclined to scream at your husband and other children, if you have them. You may even be feeling a little frisky, or at the very least, more willing to let your partner put his arm around you as you drift off at night. If pregnancy sex is still the furthest thing from your mind, try cuddling. Hold hands. Give the man something, will you? It’s good for you both. Pregnancy can be a trying time for couples, full of worries and excitement. Connecting physically is important. After all, you’ll be pregnant for the better part of a year. If you can’t be physical with your partner, discuss your feelings and help him understand what you’re going through. If, on the other hand, you are ready to go and he’s hesitant, it may help to explain that your uterus has been completely sealed off by a thick mucous plug and intercourse is completely safe for you and for baby. Where explanations fail, wine sometimes helps. For him, not for you. No wine for you.
