Hooray, you’ve started your blog at Everything Mom and added Google Adsense. Now you’re wondering how you can increase your revenue.
Build Your Audience
Increasing your audience increases your revenue potential and it all starts with content; unique and appealing content that will invite readers in and keep them coming back. Update regularly and you may even get featured in the weekly newsletter to the Everything Mom membership base, exposing you to potential new readers.
Promoting your blog can also increase your readership. Share it with people on twitter, on Facebook or any other social networks you participate in. You can even include it in your email signature.
The content of your blog is also used by Google Adsense to determine what ads are placed on your page. The more relevant the ad to your blog content, the easier it is to transition from reader to clickthrough (which is what ultimately generates your revenue numbers). To ensure relevant ads are placed on your blog, use important keywords based on your content for your blog title (if your blog is about breastfeeding, include that in the title). Choosing the most relevant blog category will also help.
Optimize Your Google Adsense Ads
With your content in place and your readership growing, optimizing your Google Adsense units may help convert viewership into clickthroughs. Google offers the following hints on how you can do this:
Ad Size – wider ads tend to perform better (according to Google). They are more reader friendly, allowing the reader to view more words on one line before having to adjust their eyes to go to the next line quickly.
Ad types – choosing to display text and image ads (text_image) opens up a larger inventory of ads available for placement on your blog and therefore the likelyhood of getting something more relevant to your blogs content. Ensure you select one of the following ad sizes that work with image ads and are approved to run on Everything Mom:
• square (250x250)
• small square (200x200)
• medium rectangle (300x250)
• large rectangle (336x280)
Ad placement – advertising is limited to the right sidebar on your Everything Mom blog, but where the ad appears within that sidebar can make a difference. Ads closer to the top of the page tend to perform better than those near the bottom (according to Google).
Try a few variations and see what works for you.
